Health Effects
There are 86 industrial wind turbines here and I delivered mail where 64 of them are located. I, like most members of our community didn't pay much attention to the news that the turbines were coming in because we trusted our local town government and the state government to site them responsibly and safely. We were very naive.

Windmills
"My husband and I have decided to walk away from our property. I can't stand it here for another day. I can't leave soon enough. You may be able to put turbines up behind our home, but that doesn't mean I am going to do nothing when it affects my family's health and my animals' well-being."

Noel & Peggy
We support alternative energy sources and believe that solar is the God-given power house that must be utilized. We have never been in favor of industrial wind turbines because they leave too big a footprint on the earth and too large an impact on the quality of life of those living around them. We have held this belief long before this project was proposed.

Exerpts on Noise
The items listed are reports that I have made or correspondence that I have sent about what I have learned and what worries me about the "noise" emitted by wind-turbine farms. Where communiciation was one-on-one, I have omitted the identify of the recipient. I have clarified, condensed, or updated some content in the hope of making it of interest in a broader context.

Testimony before the New York State Legislature
Federal agencies are trying to put the brakes on willy-nilly wind turbine construction, citing, for instance, wildlife issues. The GAO (Government Accountability Office) last fall told US Fish and Wildlife to get involved. The National Academy of Sciences in April 2005 initiated a 20-month study on environmental impacts whose final report is due in December this year. There also needs to be a focus on human health, and the state needs to step up to the plate in terms of regulation.

Turbine Flicker
A wind turbine outside the state Department of Environmental Quality office in Bay City generates a "flicker effect" that annoys employees. The problem is with frosted skylights on top of the building, officials say. The natural light they give off is great. But when the sun shines just right, shadows from the turbine blades fall onto the roof of the building, creating a strobelike effect inside.

Shadow Flicker
When industrial wind turbines which are 40 stories tall are sited too close to people's home there is trouble with noise and shadow flicker. Wind developers deny these problems exist and in the state of Wisconsin want to put them 1000 feet from houses. That's 350 steps.

Noise and Flicker
My head and body are trembling, dizzy, vibrating; the right way to describe what is happening to me right now eludes me. I do know that it is very uncomfortable. This feeling is from standing in my kitchen and subjecting myself to the flicker for about six minutes in order to document what has happened to my home. This is unbearable.
